Update from Councillor Andy Cooper - Chairman of the Parish Council:
"The Public Meeting about the, now closed, Zachary Merton Hospital and associated land, organised in partnership with Mrs Alison Griffiths MP, took place on the evening of 21 May 2026, at The Woodlands Centre.
The NHS Representatives in attendance responded to questions from the ‘floor’, and agreed to provide written responses to questions received prior to the Meeting, and those which could not be answered on the night. These responses are now available via Mrs Griffiths MP
Website and at the end of this article. They also stated that no final decision had been made regarding the future of the site, and committed to ongoing communication and engagement with the local community.
Mrs Griffiths has raised the closure with Ministers in Parliament on a number of occasions and has requested that the Secretary of State review the closure decision. She has also met with senior NHS leaders to press the case for local services, and she will, continue to lobby for the long-term future of healthcare services at the Zachary Merton site to be secured, and to ensure that the voice of the local community is considered in any affecting decisions. To further assist Mrs Griffiths and the Council, to continue to hold the NHS to account, we would urge you to complete the Survey on her Website at
www.alisongriffiths.org.uk/zachary-merton
Please rest assured that the Parish Council will continue to listen to you, its parishioners, and will press the NHS for openness, accountability and genuine engagement as the discussions continue – we must continue to ‘fight the fight’ to preserve the Zachary Merton Site for future health provision."
